Franklin Roosevelt

Men make history. Their ideas and their hopes, their goals and contrivances for reaching those goals, shape all experience, past and present. As the society has developed, the population has diversified the interest of people in policy increased. The debate about settling the issues of independence, of democratic reform, of expansion, of slavery, of union, of control of private economic power, of resistance to totalitarianism emerged.

This project presents one of the most famous personalities of American policy: Franklin Delano Roosevelt. Born in 1882, Roosevelt become the 32nd president of the United States in 1933 and held office to 1945 during the Depression and World War II. To counter the Great Depression of the 1930s he enlisted the powers of the federal government to promote the economic welfare of the U.S. people (the New Deal era). He was also an important leader in the Allied struggle against de Axis powers in World War II, preparing the way for the United States to assume a continuing role in world security.

I will attempt to show how, despite the fact that Roosevelt was often blamed of dictatorial ambitions, he succeeded in leading America to the reconstruction, during the Great Depression, and victory, in the Second World War. I will discuss the background and his early political life in general and about his measures, known as "New Deal" policy, basic for the recovery of America.

My main motive for choosing this theme is my interest in social issues, and more generally in political science. I admire the work of Roosevelt, who managed to keep America on the first position in the world. I also take interest in his relation with his opponents and colleagues, who helped him having an effective administration.
